Creating the future, without fear.

// Curriculum Update: Week of Feb. 18 //

Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Also, thanks for accommodating this week’s early snow closing! The children  were so excited to see the snow fall from our classroom and made comments what they planned to do outside. Also, big hit in Blue Room for family fun night -a lot of families visited and had so much fun being Dr. Seuss!

Other news, we continue our "parts of our body" topic by exploring our muscles and what they do for us.

This week...

Love is in the air..... We welcome February!

This week, we had two best friends who turned 6 celebrate their birthdays one day apart, how awesome! In more awesomeness, Happy Chinese New Year!

We continued the study of the Human Body and got into more depth with our discussions...the children learned the names of different organs in their body's and their functions such as, heart, kidney, liver, brain and lungs. They explored the works on the shelves on this unit as they matched 3-part picture cards and labels, also an interactive work placing the organs.

In other news, the Kindergarteners published their 1st book and read aloud to their parents this week in their "Publishing Party!" They worked endless hours, putting thought into their story, from thinking about a real life event, drafting, editing and creating their final copy! We applaud them...!

// Curriculum Update: Week of Jan 28 //

We made it through the bitter cold..... for now! With that, we were still able to engage in gross-motor activities on the 6th floor, the children having endless fun, teaming up to play chasing games, building  with the blue blocks, pretending to form their own band while drumming.

In the classroom, we started a new unit of study.... "The Human Body." We discussed the some key parts and read some books. We touched on how we have many senses (hearing, tasting, seeing, smelling) and we use them everyday to do the simplest stuff - hearing the birds chirp, seeing the blue sky, tasting an apple and smelling their warm lunches.  We will continue with this unit for next few week to come....

Stay warm....(:)

// Week of January 28 //

// Week of January 21 //

We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, staying warm and comfortable from the bitter cold that swung by. Also, finding time to take a minute or two to reflect on the message the Martin Luther King left behind.  We continued to talk and read books on topic and if you look across the hallway wall you will find some thoughts and kindness shared by our students.

In our Practical Life works, we added a new spreading work that everyone seems to enjoy.  Thank you for volunteering weekly for snacks and food preparation; it’s an essential part of learning some skills we use daily…. independence, sharing, waiting, etc….

// Curriculum Update: Week of Jan. 14 //

What an incredible week! Thank you parents for coming to Work With Your Child Week, we saw the joy, love and excitement in each and everyone! Many moments of confidence, laughter, joy and serenity!

This week we revisited the lessons on peace as we lead up to the day of observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , celebrating and acknowledging our differences. We read books and had discussions on the person he was. One of the books we read was “All the Colors We Are” by Katie Kissinger. With the understanding the children acquired, they were thoughtful with their words of really thinking of what they can do to be kind, helpful and become a better citizen to our community. We are always so astounded with the insights the children share with us!

// Curriculum Update: Week of Jan 7 //

The children has gotten back to the full-swing of things, going to their specials and exploring the shelves as always with the new additions (works) added. In discussions, we have been talking about the weather and how animals and little creature survive the bitter cold. We read several books and one that was highlighted was the "The Mitten" book by Jan Brett, and made a work that involves designing, coloring, cutting and lacing, that the children are actively working on.  Keep an eye out for the display to come...

As always, all the best ..... Blue Room

// Hibernation Week: Curriculum Update //

Wow, how time flies by! As we go on to start the holidays, we wish everyone a safe, warm, restful and a wonderful time with friends and family and the things you love to do!

It’s been an exciting past few weeks where the children worked on their art pieces that are displayed in the hallway across from our classroom! In doing so, they explored different medias and techniques to create each piece.  Also, in the classroom,  we got ready for Hibernation Day, we read books and added some new works about how animals and insects get ready for winter. With that, the children learned some new vocabulary (hibernation, migration and adaptation). We read the book Over and Under the Snow by Christopher Silas Neal and the children were surprised to learn that bees and other insects are hibernating underground—and that even when we ski or walk on snow, that they are still safe!

P.S. We loved seeing everyone in their pajamas :)

Thank you for a wonderful 2018, and we hope to see you all next year!

Warmly, Ms. Justine, Ms. Melissa and Ms. Karen

// Curriculum Update: First Week in December //

This week we welcomed a new friend to our classroom. The children were very excited to demonstrate some of the classroom ground rules and show some of their favorite works, for example,  how to carefully walk in the classroom, roll a rug neatly and carry trays. We also continued our study different foods and learned that fruits are also nutritious for our bodies and good to eat. All the children stated that they love fruits and many kinds where named— even persimmons and pomegranate, too.
