As the day of the balloon launch is near all of the middle school students are working as much as possible to make this years launch a success. Down below are some photos of everyone working together.
HPMS Middle School Balloon Launch Promo
For the past month the Middle School students have been working long and hard to make the balloon launch possible. For the past 4 years the Middle School has launched a weather balloon into space and filmed the process. The balloon launch will be taking place Monday, May 20 - Wednesday, May 22. The launch will be streamed live on HPMS Gallery so that parents and students can watch the launch at home. The broadcasting team of the balloon launch has put together this wonderful promo for the balloon launch that gives you lots of information about what is happening this year and what has happened in past years.

Hibernation Day

Project Based Learning in our Middle School Program
All the way up on our 5th floor our Middle School students have been hard at work on their first unit of the year, Bridges. Students work in a 2 hour afternoon block on projects of individual interest based on a shared theme. This type of learning is deeply connected to Montessori pedagogy AND proven by recent brain science to promote and engender collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and empathy.
Visit our HPMS Gallery site to see the work they’ve been doing, and check back often for updates! You’ll also find projects from our Lower and Upper Elementary students here, and some Middle School creations from last year.
// Technology & Media with our 3rd Level Students! //
Our DEL (Digital Experience Lab) class is off to a great start this year. We introduce technology & media as a special privilege to our 3rd level students in Lower Elementary, giving them an introduction to the mindsets and skills we value at HPMS. Our first unit of the year is always focused on Information. Last year, students focused on mapping our ‘HPMS Solar System.’
This year, we’re focused on creating a ‘Dictionary of the Future’! Students are learning about how new words are added to the dictionary, and what the benefits of digital & online dictionaries can be. Below are some images of students brainstorming. We can’t wait to share our project with you! Stay tuned…

// Silent Dance Party!! //
We had an incredible time last Friday night at our 2nd annual Silent Dance Party!! This event for our Upper School is a fun way for friends new and old to bond through music, dancing, and of course… the waffle bar!
I have to admit, the teachers love it just as much. Special thanks to DJ F-stop (aka Ellis Spiezia’s dad) for spinning all of our tunes, and to Dave Slurzberg for running all of our other tech & lighting!
If you’ve never been to a silent dance party, want to learn more or host your own, check out Quiet Events more info!
(sorry for the blurry pics… these kids were movin’ and groovin’!)

Closing the Opportunity Gap One Student at a Time
In 2006...
when Hamilton Park Montessori School (HPMS) opened the doors of its two early childhood classrooms, it committed to a whole-child approach to education— one that meets the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of each child. 12 years later, and well into its expansion into Middle School, it continues to nurture each child’s love of learning. As part of its ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student body, HPMS recently changed its status to a 501(c)3 non-profit entity. This will enable the school to expand its efforts at increasing the socio-economic diversity of its student body through a giving program and scholarship fund.
“Dr. Maria Montessori was globally acknowledged for her advocacy toward peace and social justice. Since day one, it’s been our commitment to meet the needs of our diverse student body, and to support every student’s curiosity and passion for learning. And now, with our new non-profit status, we will be able to even more closely mirror the diversity of the larger city and world around us,” commented Samantha Trice, founder of HPMS. “We love watching students learn to work hard and to persevere, to solve problems, and to find joy in learning everyday.”
