Week of May 20th
Thirteen more days until summer vacation! Lots of things happening these last few days of school. In math, second and third levels learned about the different ways to measure, while third levels had a lesson on volume. In culture, first levels had a really fun lesson about mammals. Scripts and song are done so it’s time to rehearse for the end of the year ceremony. Lastly, last Friday, we surprised Ms. Michelle with a bridal shower! We had a blast!
Week of May 13th
It was a busy week in Ocean Room! In math, first levels received a lesson about telling time, while in language, they are working on grammar matching patterns. Second levels received a lesson on direct objects. Third levels are working on division with the stamp game.

Ø CONGRATULATIONS to the HPMS Basketball Team for playing an incredible game verses Village Montessori~ we finally won (46 to 18). The UE team won against Stevens (18-16).
Ø Please enjoy the video on the HPMS balloon launch (yes, that’s really the curve on the Earth from the balloon launched by HPMS students). This project has been happening for four years:
· Year 1 ~ focus was on altitude
· Year 2~ focus was on creating an environment for an insect to go into space (balloon had a hole and ended up in a lake)
· Year 3~ focus was on creating an environment for a small mammal to go into space~ students had ethical concerns if it didn’t work so they changed it to using the air supply to launch a rocket (but no trash was to left in space)
· Year 4~ focus is on communication~ there will be a live stream on the 6th floor for K students and up to watch on May 21

Ø Discussion for next year…thoughts about fruit as the go to birthday snack (child shares their favorite fruit with the class) and changing the snack sign up (parents bring in one item once a week instead of enough snack for the class for an entire week).
// Week of May 6: Curriculum Update //
This week, we want to share a few pictures of Ocean Room friends in their Spanish and PE classes. Last Monday, Ocean Room friends celebrated and learned about “La Batalla de Puebla” or “Cinco de Mayo” in Spanish class. In PE, they learned the rules and played scooter handball, besides doing their warm ups. In the classroom, first levels continue working on multiplication bead boards. Second and third levels had a lesson on Photosynthesis. In cultural, first levels learned the parts of the seed while second levels learned about monocots and dicots.

It has been a busy week in Ocean Room. In math, first levels were introduced to the multiplication bead board and have been working on their facts. Second levels are doing multi-digit multiplication problems with the checkerboard, as well as, fractions on a number line. The whole classroom has been working on finishing the last details on their non-fiction Writers Workshop books. In cultural, they received a lesson on the parts of the leaf.

This week, Ocean Room friends were introduced to the states and territories of Oceania. We want to thank Jessie Sima for an amazing presentation on her books. In Writers Workshop, the students are working on their chapters and on creating clever conclusions. First levels have been working in different language works such as exclamation marks, suffixes and the difference between feminine and masculine nouns. Second levels practicing their nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs by symbolizing sentences.

After a four day weekend, Ocean Room friends came back ready to work! In cultural, they received a special visitor for the reptile lesson. On Wednesday, we received a lesson on the Vernal Equinox. In math, second levels are working on multi-digit multiplication with the checkerboard, while in language, they are working on matching grammar symbolizing sentences and adverbs. Third levels are learning to graph information. Finally, when it is raining outside, we do yoga inside.

HPMS is celebrating World Down Syndrome Day on March 20! Wear your jeans and/or silly socks, too.

This week, Ocean Room friends received the Fundamental Needs Of Humans Lesson. This lesson teaches the children that people everywhere have the same basic needs even though those needs are fulfilled in different ways. In cultural, they studied the parts of a bulb and used the jars that they brought in to plant a bulb. In math, first levels are working on measuring different lengths .

Week of February 25th
Thank you for attending our fun family night event! We hoped you had a great under the sea experience! This week, in cultural, first levels were studying the life cycle of a frog. In math, first levels received a lesson on the U.S. nickel! Second levels worked on vocabulary building. Third levels worked on division with the stamp game!
Week of March 4th
It has been a week full of lessons and follow ups! In math, first levels have been working on matching and naming fractions.; while second level friends worked on fractions on a number line. In language, first levels received a lesson on adjectives; second levels had a lesson on contractions; while third level friends were working on homophones. In cultural, Ocean Room friends have been working on presidents research; second levels and third levels worked on their parts of a plant and animal cells. And lastly, a few pictures from music class last week!
