Creating the future, without fear.

// Week of Sept. 24: Curriculum Update //

This week we have been learning a lot about what it means to be a community where everyone takes part.  We have been practicing our peace day songs — our favorite is Peace Like a River — and read a book about meditation and mindfulness titled, Peaceful Piggy Meditation.

We learned how to find the quiet place in our bodies and mind when we feel overwhelmed and talked about how peaceful people feel good and always take care of their friends.

We worked together to clean the classroom and everyone is very excited about welcoming you all for Back to School Night! Needless to say, our “Kindness Jar” is filling up fast because the Indigo Room friends care about each other very much.

// Curriculum Update for Week of Sept. 17 //

This week we’ve started a new study on one of our favorite fall fruits — apples! Some of the children have taken recent trips to local farms or the farmers market with their families and have been noticing that it’s the season for apple picking. This week we learned a brand new song about the lifecycle of the apple, read The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall, opened up an apple and named all of its parts, learned to wedge and slice apples, planted some apple seeds in the park, and shared a taste of a Red Delicious apple during circle time. We’re looking forward to continuing this study over the next couple of weeks!

// Week of Sept. 10: Curriculum Update //

We are off to an amazing start to the school year! Everyone has settled in beautifully and it feels as if we have all been together all along. The children have gotten right down to work, returning to familiar activities and exploring some new ones. We voted on our new classroom name - Indigo Room - and created our list of agreements to keep our environment the peaceful and joyous place we know it will be!
