Student Portfolios

Creating the future, without fear.

// Week of Sept. 17 //

During this week, we began to lay the foundation for all future Montessori activities by demonstrating the most basic activities, such as: unrolling and rolling a work mat, walking carefully around a work mat that is laid on the floor, understanding that some work is better  suited for completion on a table and some on a the work mat, and carrying a tray with two hands while walking slowly to a table or work mat.

       Some students have been showing an interest in socializing and have been making small connections in the classroom while working near each other or enjoying snack and at the park while playing at the playground.

       Just in time for Autumn’s arrival, we have begun our exploration of apples. We have been signing songs, such as “Way Up High in the Apple Tree” and “Farmer Brown had Four Green Apples”.  Stay tuned for more apple-related activities coming up soon!

// Week of Sept. 10 //

      What an exciting week in Circle Room! This week, we welcomed new friends who were “Phasing-in”.  The students are beginning to get familiarized with the classroom routines and guidelines. They began to explore the materials and establish their favorites.

      Among our new routines is circle time when new songs, like “There Are Seven Days in a Week”, and activities are introduced.  Gathering together on the carpet, we sing a welcome song which serves to reinforce the names of the students and teachers.

     We also introduced and practiced outdoor safety rules and walked to the park holding onto the classroom rope.  As a reminder, during these early days of school, should you happen to be near the school or park during one of our walks, kindly remain out of sight so we can continue to bond as a classroom.

     We are looking forward to all of our students settling in and growing as a classroom community throughout the year!
